The College of Engineering (CoE) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has held its first College Open Day for Parents and Senior High Students at the College of Engineering Auditorium. The event provided a platform for potential students to interact with current engineering lecturers and students of the College and knowing available engineering career opportunities.

Professor Mark Adom-Asamoah, the College Provost, stated that the College has introduced the High School Information Day which would become an important occasion in the College’s calendar. He added that the event was intended to provide an excellent opportunity for parents and High School Students to gain a better understanding of the various engineering programs offered to enable them choose the right programs during the University application process.
Prof. Adom-Asamoah revealed that the College currently runs 15 undergraduate Engineering programmes in 10 Departments and therefore has for the past 66 years been the country leader in the training of Engineers. He continued that the College aims at continuing this mandate by improving student learning experiences, quality of their teaching and research and ensuring that their products make tangible contribution to the infrastructure and development needs of Ghana. He then assured that issues regarding career opportunities would be resolved by the end of the event.
The Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Ansah, mentioned that it was a privilege for the High School Students to be at the event and advised them to think of KNUST anytime they think of reading engineering courses. He added that, the selection of subject combination by potential students goes wrong all the time but he believes that the support of teachers and old students of the College will help them make good choices.
Prof. Ansah also revealed that, measures are being taken to accommodate more female students and also give special offers to females who would want to read engineering programs at KNUST. He concluded that, as part of the development of the University, he hopes other Colleges will also do same to teach and equip potential High School Students as well.
